Woman hit by truck in Jamaica

A pedestrian was in critical condition Thursday morning after she was struck by a cement truck at the intersection of Sutphin and Linden boulevards in Jamaica, police said.
The unidentified woman was crossing the street around 8:30 a.m. to get to the other side of the Sutphin when the truck hit her, according to eyewitnesses.
“I didn’t think he saw her,” eyewitness Marie Hernandez, 20, said of the truck driver.
The pedestrian was pinned under the truck and the driver of the vehicle, which belongs to the Atlantic Building Supply company in Hollis, stayed at the scene, police said. EMTs removed the woman from under the truck and rushed her to Jamaica Hospital, according to police. She was listed in critical condition as of Thursday morning, police said.
The driver was not charged with any criminality but was being questioned by police at the scene. The intersection has a stoplight and pedestrian signals.
The driver, who has worked for the company for about 10 years, was on his way to a construction job, according to Atlantic Building Supply Company President John Cervoni
“From what I understand the driver had a green light and when he realized he struck the woman, he stopped,” he said.
The president said his company is cooperating with the investigation.
