Drunk driver nabbed in the Rockaways: Brown
ROCKAWAY BEACH — A Broad Channel woman was facing jail time after being caught driving drunk a second time, the Queens district attorney’s office said.
At 1:30 a.m. Jan. 24, police pulled over a woman in a 1997 Toyota at Beach 84th Street and Rockaway Beach Boulevard, the Queens DA said.
The officer noticed Bessie Bass, 55, smelled like alcohol and was wobbly on her feet, the DA said. A search of Bass’ car turned up two open bottles of vodka on the passenger seat, the DA said.
Bass was taken to the 112th Precinct, where an intoxilyzer test showed she had a blood alcohol level of .267, more than three times the legal limit, the DA said. Bass, who was convicted of a drunk-driving charge in Brooklyn in 2006, was charged with felony drunk driving and released on her own recognizance, the DA said
Her next court date is Feb. 8.
